Day 129 – Chess, fake bags and Momos, Kathmandu

Random parade down the street in Kathmandu

Spent today just enjoying Kathmandu before we head off to Pokora, Chittawan and then Everest base camp. We are really enjoying the much more chilled out nature of Nepal, we've been shopping all day and not had a single person hassle us or chase us down the street.

Lots of dancing and drumming

And a big old goddess thingy

Main business of the day has been to get remaining bits and pieces ready for Everest base camp. We are both now the proud owners of some walking poles, metal bottles, head torches, all sorts of medical stuff and some very, very snazzy Jesus sandles. We have been told these are essential for walking around the various hostels up there after a day in boots. I'm not so sure but they're staying out of the bin until we get up there and i can assess the situation.

Snazztastic

Chess is a very stressful game for Danielle despite her saying she loves it, regular shouts of 'I fooking hate chess' and other such obscenities come out depending on how the game is going

Danielle also bought another rucksack to go with the three she already has, this one is better for trekking apparently. So much fake walking stuff around here, Danielle's is a fake north face and it's actually stitched together pretty well with all of the frame stuff, looks the business, all for a tenner. We'll see how long it lasts. We also caved in and bought a chess set after seeing them in every country we've been to, figuring there will be a lack of electricity up Everest. Danielle one nil up so far which could mean it's the only game that ever gets played if I'm close to losing the next one.

Momos are tasty good

Momo hut in the evening, Nepalese momos are like dim sum but better. Just filled with shredded meat of veggies and amazing sauces.

  1. Lol…that’s the smallest chess board I’ve ever seen. 😉

  2. Kathmandu does have a charm all of its own, but I must say it is the most dirty place I have ever visited. http://backpackerlee.wordpress.com/2014/04/08/kathmandu-is-even-dirtier-than-delhi/
